More on Rock on the Range

2009年5月17日、A7Xが出たRock on the Rangeというフェスの写真を少しとレビューを3つご紹介。

A7Xではなく、A7Zって略しているのは、ミススペルなんでしょうか
「アベンジドセブンフォールド:バンドは、ライブのグルーブを身につけ、彼らのアイドルであるGuns n Rosesのように、正式に皆が熱狂するバンドになったように感じられた。バンドの50分間のセットは、パイロやSynyster Gatesのギターから聞こえる哀調のこもった調べを充分に盛り込んでいて、まさにファンたちが求めているものを提供した。もし、あと数曲「Waking the fallen」レコードから演ってさえいれば、完璧だったのに。彼らのアイドルの高みにまでA7Zが到達するかと言えば、それは可能かもしれないし、無理かもしれない。けれども、いずれにしても、まだまだ長い道のりが続いている」

-Avenged Sevenfold- The band seems to have found their groove live and now look and feel like an official crazed band like their idols in Guns n Roses. The band’s 50 minute set provided plenty of pyro and wailing from Synsister Gates’ guitar, and gave the growingly chilly fans in attendance exactly what they wanted. Now, only if we could get them to play a few more songs from the “Waking The Fallen” record- it’d be perfect. Will A7Z reach the heights of their idols- maybe, maybe not. But its gonna be one hell of a road, one way or another.

「アヴェンジドセブンフォールドはステージに上がる前から、盛り上がっていた。観客が待っている間、A７Xのメンバー達は、Rockwellの「Somebody’s Watching Me」を聞いていた。充分に傷つけることもやぶさかでない様子で、A7Xは王道のメタルとミクスチャーの曲を’Waking the Fallen’、‘City of Evil’とセルフタイトルからの曲を演奏した。 “Unholy Confessions”の時、この週末で一番観客がアグレッシブになった。Avenged Sevenfoldのメンバーたちは、パイロでもってドラムキックと重いベースリフを強調することによって、観客のエネルギーに火を注いだように見えた」

Avenged Sevenfold got pumped before taking the stage. As the crowd waited, members of A7X listened to Rockwell’s “Somebody’s Watching Me.” Sufficiently ready for bruising, Avenged played a set of straight metal, mixing songs from ‘Waking the Fallen,’ ‘City of Evil’ and their self-titled disc. When it came time for “Unholy Confessions” the crowd was at its most aggressive of the weekend. The boys in Avenged Sevenfold seemed to feed off this energy – using their pyro to highlight drum kicks and heavy bass riffs.

「Avenged Sevenfoldは面白いバンドになり得ただろうし、何で人気があるかはよく分かったけれど、スラッシュメタルっぽくあるか、退廃的なロックバンドになるか、決めた方がいいと思う。ちょうど中間なんだ、彼らの音楽は。90年代のサンセットストリップの一部にも見えるし、音楽はヘビーだし、一曲はオリジナルなのにパンテラのWalkみたいに聞こえたからね」

Avenged Sevenfold could be an interesting band and I can see why they earned the slot just before the headliner, but I wish they’d just decide whether they want to be a thrashy metal band (ala Pantera) or a sleeze rock band (ala Buckcherry) because their music was somewhere in between. They certainly look the part of early ’90s Sunset Strip but the music was heavy, at one point Kirk and I were convinced that they were covering Pantera’s “Walk” (a song they’ve been known to cover live) though it turns out it was one of their originals.
